Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking high-performing engineers to lead, collaborate, innovate, and create impact across transportation, water distribution, wastewater, and land development projects.

As an Engineer 1 - Staff Engineer, you will perform design calculations, prepare bid documents, file permits, conduct fieldwork, and use AutoCAD and GIS while mentoring interns. A Bachelor's in Civil or Environmental Engineering and 1–3 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering is required.
• 1–3 years of related experience.
• Field data collection experience.
• Proficiency with MS 365.
• Excellent technical writing skills.
• Safety-conscious with a good safety record.
• Sponsorship not available now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Perform design calculations for transportation, water, wastewater, or land development projects.
• Prepare bid documents including specifications and drawings.
• File state, federal, and local permit applications.
• Conduct fieldwork such as surveying, data collection, and inspections.
• Contribute to reports describing objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
• Use AutoCAD and GIS to support planning and design.
• Develop positive working relationships and mentor interns.
• Participate in master planning and assist clients with regulatory compliance.

Your Responsibilities as an Engineer 1 - Staff Engineer:

• Under the direction of a Project Manager, Senior Project Engineer, or Project Engineer, perform the following items for transportation, water distribution, pumping, and treatment systems; wastewater collection, pumping, and treatment; stream and stormwater conveyance; stormwater management and design; or land planning and development:
• Design calculations;
• Bid documents including specifications and drawings;
• State, federal, and local permit applications;
• Perform fieldwork such as surveying, GPS data collection, infrastructure inspections and assessment,water sampling, traffic counts, and construction observation;
• Contribute to reports describing the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions from field efforts.
• Use technical software to support transportation, wastewater, drinking water or stormwater projects;
• Use AutoCAD and GIS applications to support planning and design;
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff. Provide on-the-job training andmentoring for interns;
• Participate in comprehensive master planning; and
• Assist clients with regulatory compliance.

What we're looking for:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required. Excellent writing skills, previous experience preferred, familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS applications, proficient with MS Office software, and EIT certification are helpful. If working toward EIT, obtain within the first year of employment. Driver’s license
