Job summary

Ameren Missouri is seeking a Chemical Engineer to monitor and optimize plant chemical systems across multiple sites. You will perform calculations, write detailed reports, and ensure quality control of equipment and programs within power plant chemistry.

The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage several projects, respond to outages, and collaborate with internal and external teams. A PE license is preferred and water treatment experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • PE license preferred; experience in water treatment or plant chemistry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the performance of chemical systems at Ameren Missouri sites.
  • Perform calculations and write reports on chemical-system performance.
  • Provide quality control review of plant chemistry equipment, processes, and programs.
  • Develop standards and strategies for design, operation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Assess equipment and programs for compliance with standards.
  • Inspect chemical equipment and plant equipment affected by chemical systems.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system problems.
  • Collaborate with Ameren personnel and outside organizations on operations.
  • Develop options to improve plant equipment performance and reliability.
  • Prepare procedures, specifications, and drawings for equipment operation or modification.
  • Coordinate contractors and Ameren personnel for equipment operation or maintenance.
  • Support major capital projects related to plant chemistry and environmental controls.

Job description

  • Monitor the performance of chemical systems at various sites throughout the Ameren Missouri system
  • Perform calculations and write reports summarizing chemical-system performance
  • Provide quality control review of plant chemistry equipment, processes, and programs
  • Develop standards and strategies for design, operation, testing, and maintenance of plant chemical systems
  • Assess equipment and programs for compliance with standards
  • Inspect chemical equipment and plant equipment affected by chemical systems, including boilers and condensers
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system problems
  • Collaborate with Ameren personnel and outside organizations to assess operation and maintenance issues
  • Develop options to improve plant equipment performance and reliability
  • Prepare procedures, specifications, and drawings for operating, maintaining, or modifying equipment
  • Coordinate contractors and Ameren personnel operating or maintaining equipment
  • Support major capital projects related to plant chemistry and environmental controls
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university required
  • Previous experience in water treatment and power plant chemistry preferred; new graduates will be considered
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License preferred
  • Proficiency in PC-based spreadsheets, graphics, word processing, and database software preferred
  • Must be able to operate an automobile
  • Must be able to enter and work in tight, enclosed spaces
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam required for participation on a Hazardous Materials Response Team
  • Excellent analytical, communication, human relations, leadership, and customer service skills required
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to respond to outage and emergency situations off shift
