Job summary

Extell Hospitality Services is seeking an Engineer to maintain and operate the hotel's building systems. This line-level role covers day-to-day maintenance in guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces, with preventive work directed by the Director or Assistant Director of Engineering.

You will coordinate with the leadership team on safety, repairs, and guest comfort, document tasks in the maintenance system, and support setup for meetings and events.

Qualifications

  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance knowledge required.
  • Experience in hotel or hospitality maintenance preferred.
  • HVAC License and LFSD certificate preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety compliance.

Perfectly positioned at Rockefeller Center’s doorstep with a bird’s eye view of the bustling plaza below, the 33-story design-forward hotel, developed by Extell, offers expansive, coveted views of the city skyline. The third New York City addition to the Kimpton portfolio, the striking tower features 529 guest rooms and inspired social spaces, including two full-service restaurants, a lobby lounge and a rooftop bar. Additional amenities include a fitness center and two spaces to host unique meetings and social gatherings.

Overview

The Engineer is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the hotel's facilities and building systems. This position is a line-level role responsible for the day-to-day maintenance needs and requests, as well as performing preventive maintenance in guest rooms as directed by the Director or Assistant Director of Engineering. The Engineer will work collaboratively to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform day-to-day general maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas.
    • Execute repairs and maintenance related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems as directed.
    • Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests from guests and staff.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance on guest room equipment and systems as scheduled and directed by the Director or Assistant Director of Engineering.
    • Identify and report any major maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damaged items to the leadership team.
    • Utilize maintenance tracking systems (e.g., HotSos) to document work performed and report issues.
  • Operational Support:
    • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including OSHA standards and Lockout/Tagout procedures, particularly those related to engineering and maintenance.
    • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
    • Handle guest requests and inquiries promptly and courteously.
    • Handle chemicals and cleaning agents according to safety guidelines when applicable to maintenance tasks.
    • Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment for meetings and social gatherings as needed.
  • Guest Interaction & Satisfaction:
    • Professionally interact with guests when performing maintenance repairs or system troubleshooting in occupied rooms.
    • Communicate effectively with guests regarding the status of repairs and expected completion times.
    • Ensure guest satisfaction by minimizing disruption and leaving guest rooms in excellent condition after completing work.
Qualifications

Prior experience in a maintenance or engineering role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment, is a plus. HVAC License and Local Fire Safety Director (LFSD) certificate are preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common maintenance issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic communication skills to interact with guests and team members.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand, walk, pull, push, bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including overnights, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Typical Compensation Range
  • Hourly Rate: $29.88 - $31.88
