Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Engine Simulation Engineer to develop 1D engine models in GT-POWER and GT-SUITE. You will manage multiple projects, correlate results, and provide technical insight for hardware and calibration development.

The role requires strong understanding of combustion engines, 1D CFD tools, and experience with HIL/SIL simulations, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration within a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
• 3 years of propulsion simulation and/or virtual engineering experience.
• 5 years of engineering experience.
• Fundamental understanding of combustion engines and GT-SUITE 1D CFD software.
• Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop 1D engine simulation models in GT-POWER for gasoline and diesel engines.
• Simulate full and part load models focusing on torque, power and fuel consumption.
• Process lab and model data into standardized format.
• Execute transient engine simulations to support control algorithm evaluation (HIL/SIL).
• Create medium or fast running models (MRM/FRM) for controls development.
• Develop analytical techniques to model engine technologies with minimal test data.
• Develop valve lift profiles using parametric valvetrain design software.
• Provide design recommendations based on analysis results.
• Present analysis results to peers and management.
• Distill 3D data into 1D model geometry.
• Collaborate with test engineers to validate results.
• Contribute to post-processing and automation tools using MATLAB and/or Python.
• Generate virtual data or calibrations for embedded engine controller.
