Job summary

General Motors in the United States is seeking an Engine Performance Simulation Engineer to advance 1D engine models and calibration strategies for gasoline and diesel engines.

You will build GT-POWER models, evaluate torque and fuel consumption, process lab data, and support controls development with MATLAB or Python tooling.

This hybrid role requires coordinating with design teams and test engineers, presenting results to peers, and contributing to tool development to reduce test needs.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering, CS, or Physics required.
• 3 years propulsion simulation/virtual engineering experience.
• 5 years engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of combustion engines and GT-SUITE 1D CFD.
• Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Comfort with ambiguity and developing new capabilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop 1D engine simulation models in GT-POWER for various engine architectures.
• Simulate full and part-load models focusing on torque, power and fuel consumption.
• Process lab/model data (fuel mapping) into standardized format.
• Execute transient engine simulations to support control algorithm evaluation.
• Create MRMs/FRMs to support controls development.
• Develop analytical techniques for modeling engine technologies with minimal test data.
• Develop optimized valve lift profiles using parametric valvetrain software.
• Provide design recommendations based on analysis results.
• Present analysis results to engineers and management.
• Convert 3D math data into 1D model geometry with proper discretization.
• Collaborate with test engineers to improve lab procedures.
• Contribute to post-processing and automation tools using MATLAB/Python.
• Generate virtual data for calibrations for embedded engine controllers.
