Job summary

General Motors is seeking a highly skilled Engine Combustion & Airflow Technical Specialist to join our Engine Performance and Calibration team. This role focuses on high-fidelity CFD simulations to shape ICE technology, covering gas exchange, combustion modeling, fuel injection spray, and emissions control for next-generation gasoline and diesel systems.

Hybrid work arrangement: report to the office three times per week.

Qualifications

10+ years' experience with compressible CFD analysis of powertrain systems.
MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related with a focus on ICE or fluid dynamics.
7+ years' experience in CFD software (CONVERGE, STAR-CD, STAR-CCM+).
Proficient with meshing tools (ProStar, ICEM, Hypermesh, Tgrid) and post-processing (Ensight).
Proficient in programming (Java, MATLAB, Python), workflow automation.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical method development and roadmap for fuel spray and in-cylinder mixture preparation.
Own scorecards for combustion, airflow, exhaust, and sensors.
Design and optimize combustion chamber geometries for efficiency and emissions.
Simulate and interpret combustion, heat transfer, and catalyst heating.
Provide design recommendations to Hardware & Calibration Specialists.
Enhance current analysis practices to improve fidelity and speed.
Lead analysis capability development initiatives, aiming for an all-virtual future.
Drive testing to support development of first-time capable analysis techniques.
Interface with software vendors and cross-functional teams to align priorities.
