Job summary

Sugar Creek Charter School in Charlotte, NC seeks an energetic Elementary Health & Physical Education Teacher to deliver high-quality instruction and promote lifelong wellness.

The ideal candidate will create a safe, inclusive classroom, differentiate for diverse abilities, and collaborate with EC teachers, families, and staff to support student success in health and physical education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Current North Carolina teaching license appropriate for the position.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate elementary Health and Physical Education instruction.
• Ability to provide safe, structured, and engaging instruction for a wide range of abilities.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, school leaders, families, and student support teams.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned Health and Physical Education instruction for elementary students.
• Develop students’ movement, coordination, fitness, teamwork, and healthy decision‑making skills.
• Establish and maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Differentiate and adapt activities for students with varying abilities.
• Provide accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities per IEPs.
• Collaborate with EC teachers, related service providers, and administrators.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Teach and reinforce safety procedures for physical activity and equipment.
• Maintain and organize PE equipment and materials.
• Communicate with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
• Participate in professional development and school events.
• Support schoolwide expectations related to student culture and success.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or leadership.
• Adapted Physical Education responsibilities: provide specialized instruction and accommodations as needed, collaborate with EC staff, collect progress data.
