Job summary

Sugar Creek Charter School – Main Campus in Charlotte, NC is seeking an energetic, student-centered Elementary Health & Physical Education Teacher to provide high-quality instruction to elementary students.

The ideal candidate will differentiate instruction, promote fitness and lifelong wellness, maintain a safe inclusive environment, and collaborate with EC and staff; NC licensure required; APE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Current North Carolina teaching license appropriate for the position.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate elementary Health and Physical Education instruction.
• Ability to provide safe, structured, and engaging instruction for students with a wide range of abilities.
• Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, school leaders, families, and student support teams.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned Health and Physical Education instruction for elementary students.
• Develop students’ movement, coordination, fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, personal wellness, and healthy decision-making.
• Establish and maintain a safe, positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Differentiate and adapt activities, equipment, instructional strategies, and expectations to ensure meaningful participation for students of varying abilities.
• Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs and other student plans.
• Collaborate with EC teachers, related service providers, classroom teachers, and administrators to support student needs.
• Monitor student progress and use assessment information to adjust instruction.
• Teach and reinforce appropriate safety procedures for physical activity, equipment, and instructional spaces.
• Maintain, organize, and appropriately use physical education equipment and instructional materials.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, school events, and other activities required of instructional staff.
• Support schoolwide expectations related to student culture, attendance, behavior, and academic success.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school leadership.
• Provide individualized or specially designed physical education instruction based on student needs and IEP requirements.
• Implement accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction strategies that increase student access and participation.
• Collaborate with EC staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other related service providers as appropriate.
• Participate in IEP meetings when needed and provide information regarding student performance and progress.
• Collect and maintain appropriate progress monitoring data for students receiving adapted physical education services.
