Job summary

Burns & McDonnell's 1898 & Co. unit seeks an Energy & Utilities Analyst in Phoenix to assist with power system studies across fossil and renewable generation, transmission and distribution planning, and investment analysis.

Under supervision of a consultant or project manager, you will perform technical, economic, and financial analyses, prepare client presentations, and support risk assessments and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related degree from an accredited program required.
  • ABET Accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, interprets, and applies engineering, financial, and economic conditions to client projects.
  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering and financial concepts within consulting services.
  • Assists with life-cycle cost analyses using capital costs, O&M costs, performance estimates, and economic forecasts.
  • Assists project team with technical assessments evaluating regulatory impacts.
  • Designs, reviews, and modifies drawings to meet project requirements.
  • Supports power system planning, operations analysis, including power flow, reliability, and economic dispatch.
  • Performs technical, engineering, economic, and financial studies for utility projects.
  • Supports transmission/distribution study analyses using power system software.
  • Assists with assessments for fossil and renewable generation.
  • Support technical and business-related risk assessments.
  • Supports detailed financial analysis using computer-based software.
  • Prepares technical reports and client presentations.
  • Supports contract administration for design/planning of utility systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies.
