Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Energy & Utilities Analyst in Houston to support power system studies, planning, and economic assessments for fossil and renewable generation. You will assist with cost analyses, regulatory assessments, and client deliverables across transmission and distribution.

Under supervision of a consultant or project manager, you will analyze technical and economic data, prepare reports and client presentations, and contribute to project deliverables for utility systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting or related degree from an accredited program required.
  • Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, interprets, and applies engineering, financial, and economic conditions to client projects.
  • Assists with life-cycle cost analysis including capital and O&M costs and forecasts.
  • Supports with analyzing regulatory impacts on projects.
  • Assists with designing, reviewing, and modifying drawings as required by project managers.
  • Supports power system planning and operations analysis including power flow and stability.
  • Performs technical, engineering, economic, and financial studies for utility projects.
  • Supports transmission/distribution study analysis using power system software.
  • Assists with assessments for fossil and renewable generation.
  • Supports technical and business risk assessments.
  • Helps prepare detailed financial analyses using various software.
  • Helps develop technical reports and client presentations.
  • Supports contract administration for design/planning of utility systems.
