Job summary

Talen Energy, based in Houston, TX, is seeking an experienced accounting/settlements professional to join its Commercial Accounting and Settlements team. The role will focus on monthly close, settlements, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration across Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and IT.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 2+ years in energy. Strong analytical, communication, and ownership qualities are essential for success in a dynamic energy market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Two or more years of progressive experience in energy, power generation, or related industry preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify issues and drive solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to present clearly across all levels of the organization.
• Motivated, self-directed, and results-oriented with ownership and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Own key components of the monthly accounting close for physical and financial wholesale power, natural gas, and fuel transactions.
• Perform settlement activities for wholesale and retail power, natural gas, and fuel transactions, ensuring accurate billing and accounting.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and analyze period-over-period fluctuations.
• Prepare weekly cash forecasts to support Treasury's liquidity planning.
• Assist with quarterly regulatory reporting, including FERC EQR filings, and audit support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely financial reporting and process improvements.
