Job summary

Talen Energy in Houston is looking for an experienced accounting/settlements professional to join our Commercial Accounting and Settlements team. The role covers monthly close, settlements, and regulatory reporting across physical and financial energy markets.

The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Commercial, Treasury, Legal, IT, and other teams to strengthen controls, improve processes, and support evolving business needs while delivering accurate financial and regulatory

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
2+ years of progressive experience in the energy or related industry preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to communicate conclusions clearly.

Responsibilities

Own key components of monthly accounting close for wholesale and financial transactions, including journal entries.
Perform settlements for wholesale and retail transactions, ensuring accurate billing and accounting.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues.
Review contracts to understand terms, settlements, and accounting implications.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and period-over-period analyses for management.
Develop and improve procedures and controls for accounting and settlement activities.
Provide audit support and respond to internal/external requests.
