Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Risk Engineer for US Energy in Los Angeles to evaluate and underwrite Property risk across conventional power and renewable energy projects. The role blends engineering expertise with insurance acumen, conducting on-site surveys, desktop reviews, and collaborating with underwriting and claims teams.

You'll translate complex exposures into actionable risk assessments, manage allocated accounts, travel regularly, and stay current on process technology and loss

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a technical discipline, such as Chemical, Process, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least five years’ experience in relevant process industries; background in operations/maintenance/loss prevention or process safety.
• Previous insurance experience is not required, but beneficial.
• Strong communication and listening skills to maintain relationships with Underwriters, Risk Engineers, Claims teams, and clients.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to create/modify documents and complex spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site risk engineering surveys and desktop reviews spanning conventional power and renewable energy risks
• Evaluate operational plants and construction projects, including large and complex exposures
• Translate technical findings into clear, actionable risk assessments that drive underwriting decisions
• Serve as a trusted technical resource for US Underwriters, Claims teams, and insureds
• Analyze risk quality, pinpoint loss drivers, and recommend practical mitigation strategies
• Travel regularly as part of the role
