Job summary

SCPPA is seeking highly qualified applicants to join its Legal team as Associate Counsel or Assistant General Counsel. The successful candidate will handle complex matters and report to the General Counsel.

Ideal candidates have JD, California bar, and experience in energy, public agency, or transactional law. The role offers a hybrid schedule in Southern California with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited institution.
• Active California State Bar license in good standing.
• Experience in energy/public agency law is highly desirable.
• Ability to independently handle complex transactional and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to SCPPA Board and staff.
• Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and analyze contracts and energy‑related agreements.
• Support energy projects, assets, and public agency matters.
• Review board materials and draft legal documents.
• Assist with public records requests and administrative matters.
• Collaborate with member attorneys, consultants, and outside counsel.
• Represent SCPPA at board and committee meetings.
• Stay current on developments in energy law.
