Job summary

Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) is seeking an Associate Counsel or Assistant General Counsel to join the legal team and handle complex energy-related matters. The successful candidate will be appointed at the level commensurate with experience and will report to SCPPA's General Counsel.

The position involves advising the SCPPA Board, drafting and negotiating contracts, and guiding public agency compliance across California.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited institution is required.
• Active California State Bar license is required.
• Experience in energy/public agency law is highly desirable.
• Ability to independently handle complex transactional and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to SCPPA Board, members, Executive Director and staff.
• Draft, review and negotiate energy-related contracts and agreements.
• Advise on public agency laws, Brown Act, California Public Records Act, and related matters.
• Represent SCPPA at board meetings and in negotiations with partners and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with member attorneys, consultants and outside counsel.
