Qualifications

  • 10-12+ years of legal experience required.
  • Energy, power generation or infrastructure background required.
  • Experience negotiating EPC, construction or major project agreements.
  • Exposure to large-scale power generation or renewable energy projects.
  • Natural gas generation, BESS, solar or carbon capture experience is relevant.
  • JD/LLB and US bar admission required.

  • Draft, review and negotiate complex project and commercial agreements.
  • Advise on EPC, construction, procurement, equipment and development arrangements.
  • Support projects involving natural gas generation, battery storage, solar and carbon capture.
  • Identify and assess legal and commercial risks and provide practical advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Work closely with development, construction, operations and commercial teams.
  • Manage complex matters independently and coordinate external counsel where required.

Assistant General Counsel - Energy Projects
Remote / Hybrid | California
The Opportunity

A leading Fortune 200 energy company and one of the largest power generators in the US is looking to appoint an experienced Assistant General Counsel to support the development and construction of major energy projects across its growing generation portfolio.

With approximately 55GW of generating capacity across nuclear, natural gas, geothermal, hydro, wind and solar, the business is investing in significant energy infrastructure across the US.

This is a senior position working closely with development, construction and commercial teams on complex projects including natural gas-fired power generation, battery storage, solar and carbon capture facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support across the full lifecycle of major energy development and construction projects.
  • Draft, review and negotiate complex project and commercial agreements.
  • Advise on EPC, construction, procurement, equipment and development arrangements.
  • Support projects involving natural gas generation, battery storage, solar and carbon capture.

Experience
  • Approximately 10-12+ years of legal experience.
  • Strong background within energy, power generation or infrastructure.
  • Experience negotiating EPC, construction or other major project agreements.
  • Exposure to large-scale power generation or renewable energy projects.
  • Natural gas-fired generation, BESS/battery storage, solar or carbon capture experience particularly relevant.
  • Strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Law firm and/or sophisticated in-house energy experience.
  • JD/LLB and relevant US bar admission.
Working Arrangement
  • Fully remote and hybrid arrangements available depending on location.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working Eastern Time Zone hours.
