Job summary

GTI Energy is seeking a Summer 2027 intern for the Modeling and Energy Systems Analytics (MESA) Team. The role focuses on data science, modeling, analytics, and quantitative methods to support low-carbon energy systems and research projects.

The intern will work on open-source data, create visualizations, and help develop energy system models while collaborating with a cross-disciplinary team. Hybrid on-site work in the Chicagoland area is expected, with some travel and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's in CS/DS/Statistics or related field.
• Strong communication of technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience with data visualization and programming libraries.

Responsibilities

• Perform exploratory data analyses and apply statistical modeling and ML to answer research questions.
• Scrape and wrangle data from open-source repositories.
• Create data visualizations and dashboards for stakeholders.
• Develop energy systems models to study supply-demand interactions.
• Apply advanced analytical techniques such as AI and neural networks.
• Prepare presentations and reports communicating findings.
• Contribute to research on methane, digitalization in energy, and net-zero systems.
• Support research efforts with best practices and collaboration.
