Job summary

Destinus is seeking an Energetics Safety & Assurance Officer to own safety, quality, and regulatory assurance across missile and UAS platforms. You will work with engineering, manufacturing, testing, and compliance teams to embed safety across the full lifecycle of safety-critical systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in defense safety engineering or related roles.
• Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and safety frameworks.
• Experience with hazard analyses, FMEA, and safety case docs.
• Familiarity with export controls for munitions/dual-use tech.
• Proficient technical documentation and English.
• Master's degree or CSP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain SSPP per MIL-STD-882E and standards.
• Lead hazard analyses (PHA, SSHA, OSHA) and FMEA across subsystems.
• Own hazard tracking and drive risk through mitigation and closure.
• Lead investigations into safety incidents and CAPA actions.
• Ensure compliance with explosives safety for siting, storage, handling, and distance criteria.
• Support live-fire and flight test campaigns with range safety teams.
• Verify safety requirements for energetic materials, warheads, propulsion, and components.
• Coordinate export control and end-use documentation with legal teams.
• Interface with certifying authorities and customer quality during qualification.
• Maintain configuration control and end-to-end traceability of safety-critical items.
• Advise IPTs on safety margins, arming/fuzing logic, and risk mitigation.
• Train production and test personnel in safe handling of ordnance.
• Provide safety posture updates to leadership and safety boards.
