Job summary

Castelion seeks an Energetics Safety Manager to lead the enterprise Energetics Safety Program, establishing policies, standards, training, and risk management for energetic materials across design, manufacture, storage, transportation, testing, and disposal.

You will partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Test, Facilities, Security, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management to embed safety throughout the product lifecycle and drive hazard analyses, ensuring regulatory compliance and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline.
• Eight or more years of experience supporting energetic materials or explosives operations in aerospace/defense.
• Experience developing safety programs, standards, procedures, and operating requirements.
• Experience leading hazard analyses and risk assessments (PHAs, HAZOPs, FMEAs, What-If, QRAs, Quantity-Distance).
• Experience in multidisciplinary design reviews and high-consequence tests or manufacturing activities.
• Knowledge of DoD explosives safety requirements, ATF, OSHA, DOT, NFPA and related standards.
• Ability to provide independent safety oversight and influence cross-functional teams.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Energetics Safety Program development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
• Establish company-wide policies, standards, procedures, specifications, and training for energetic operations.
• Coordinate safety activities across manufacturing, testing, storage, transport, and disposal.
• Integrate safety lessons from regulatory changes into the EHS system.
• Identify, evaluate, document, and manage energetics risks and controls.
• Conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments as needed.
• Support facility siting, hazard classification, and consequence analyses.
• Work with Engineering and Operations on risk reduction via engineering controls.
• Ensure documentation and risk acceptance through proper processes.
• Lead integration of energetics safety across engineering, manufacturing, and test operations.
• Establish standardized safety approaches for energetic manufacturing and testing.
• Coordinate safety support for major test campaigns and high-consequence ops.
• Represent EHS in lifecycle reviews and design/readiness activities.
• Evaluate whether hazards and controls are identified and managed before execution.
• Provide independent recommendations while preserving engineering authority.
