Job summary

Anduril Industries is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer to serve as a company-wide technical authority on system safety across the breadth of our portfolio, spanning Air Dominance & Strike, Maritime, Ground Systems, Space, Counter-UAS, and Autonomy/Lattice.

You will conduct independent, end-to-end safety assessments of programs at any lifecycle phase, shaping enterprise risk posture with analytical models and hazard framing, and preparing programs for formal government certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering or equivalent.
• Direct experience with safety review boards (WSESRB/NNMSB/SSSTRP) including building the safety case.
• Deep experience with safety-critical hardware/software in defense/aerospace (Weapon Systems, Aircraft, UAS, Maritime, Space).
• Expert MIL-STD-882E knowledge and ability to tailor it credibly; familiarity with service safety policy and JSSSEH.
• Expert in safety analysis techniques (FTA, FHA, SCFTA, FMECA) and knowing when to apply each.
• Experience with design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) and presenting to executives and regulators.
• Willingness to travel to sites, customers, and test ranges; eligible for U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a company-wide System Safety technical authority across all divisions.
• Conduct independent, end-to-end safety assessments of programs at any lifecycle phase.
• Deploy as a senior technical resource to programs across the portfolio and establish a baseline for safety.
• Prepare programs for formal government safety certification.
• Shape enterprise risk posture by introducing analytical models, hazard framing, and risk acceptance philosophy.
• Pioneer analysis approaches for autonomous and AI/ML-enabled systems where MIL-STD-882E lacks coverage.
• Negotiate safety criteria and compliance with customers and safety authorities.
• Drive safety philosophy and standards across the enterprise and influence customer requirements.
• Grow senior safety engineers into experts and create training frameworks across the company.
• Represent Anduril as a thought leader in industry groups and safety forums.
