Job summary

University of Dayton's UDRI seeks an Energetic Materials Processing Technician to support Pressing Operations at the HERD Facility, Eglin AFB, FL. You will execute precise pressing and consolidation, manage metrology data, and ensure safety for energetic materials in collaboration with researchers and engineers.

The role requires strong attention to detail, hands-on technical skills, and the ability to communicate findings clearly. A DoD SECRET clearance is preferred or obtainable.

Qualifications

• - Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) plus 1 year hands-on technical experience.
• - High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years in a lab/test environment with energetic materials.
• - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• - U.S. citizen and ability to obtain/maintain DoD SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and control precision pressing systems for energetic materials.
• - Monitor and optimize pressing variables to meet densities and properties.
• - Maintain and inspect pressing equipment, dies, fixtures, and safety systems.
• - Perform metrology using balances, calipers, micrometers, and optical systems.
• - Determine densities via gas/air pycnometry and related methods.
• - Ensure samples meet drawings, specs, and safety tolerances.
• - Collect and archive process data and write concise technical reports.
• - Communicate results and improvement opportunities to researchers and managers.
• - Enforce DoD/AF safety standards and materials accountability.
• - Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot hydraulic/electrical/pneumatic systems.
