Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a patient care assistant to join the Endoscopy team. Under RN supervision, you will help with basic patient care, prepare for procedures, and support physicians during Endoscopy suites. Prior experience not required; training provided. The role involves reprocessing endoscopes, documenting activities, stocking supplies, and assisting with various procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, biopsies).

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes all aspects of care for the assigned patients.
• Properly reprocesses endoscopes according to infection control and Lahey Clinic guidelines.
• Assures endoscope equipment is in working order
• Keeps accurate documentation for cleaning/testing of equipment and supplies
• Cleans Endoscopy procedure rooms after use and prepares for next procedure in a timely fashion
• Directly assists physician and RN during Endoscopy procedures (EGD, Colonoscopy, Biopsies, PEG placement, ERCP, EUS)
• Operates/handles equipment properly during Endoscopic procedures
• Handles specimens according to policy
• Stocks Pyxis Patient Station as needed
• Informs Lead Endoscopy Technician or management of equipment problems
• Prepares travel cart for procedures in MICU/SICU areas
• Performs basic nursing assistant duties including vital signs and telemetry
• Reports unusual observations to nurse or charge nurse
• Supports safety culture and carries out Falls Risk interventions
• Adheres to infection control policies including hand hygiene and isolation protocols
• Assists in transporting patients
• Orders supplies from Pharmacy for emergencies
