Job summary

Geisinger in Lewistown, PA is seeking an Endoscopy Assistant who prepares patients and equipment for procedures, assists physicians, and ensures high-level disinfection and patient safety in a clinical setting.

You will maintain ASGE Quality Certification, set up monitoring devices, document specimens, and support cross-training and department needs within a busy Endoscopy suite.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and set up equipment for endoscopic procedures.
  • Assist physicians and anticipate needs to facilitate safe, efficient procedures.
  • Provide patient-centered support and education.
  • Assist with monitoring devices and attach to patients.
  • Identify and process specimens obtained during procedures.
  • Restock endoscopy supplies and manage inventory.
  • Serve as preceptor for new Endoscopy personnel.
  • Clean and process equipment per established procedures.
  • Operate high-level disinfectors and verify cycles.

Job Duties
  • Prepares patients and sets up appropriate equipment for endoscopic procedures.
  • Assists the physicians and anticipates their needs to facilitate an efficient and safe procedure.
  • Provides support to the patient in a service-oriented manner.
  • Assists with set up monitoring devices and attaches to patients.
  • Prepares, identifies, and verifies all specimens obtained during the endoscopic procedures.
  • Restocks endoscopy and monitors inventory and supplies.
  • Serves as preceptor for new Endoscopy personnel.
  • Cleans and processes all equipment, instruments, and related items received for the Endoscopy suites according to established procedures for each category.
  • Operates high-level disinfectors ensuring each cycle is correct and completed.
  • Maintains extensive records for all items processed.
  • Maintains compliance with safety and preventative maintenance activities for all equipment to minimize failures and unsafe conditions.
  • Adheres to all policies, protocols and standards of care to include all licensing and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Follows written procedures for sterilization and disinfection.
  • Knows responsibilities and the necessary chemical and biological monitoring.
  • Organization and management of activities reflects due consideration of the needs of the department.
  • Cross trains to assist with workflow as needed.
