Job summary

North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, AL is seeking an Endoscopy Technician – GI for a full-time days schedule. You will join a dedicated GI team delivering high-quality care with emphasis on patient safety and efficient procedural support.

As part of the Endoscopy GI team, you will prepare the suite, ensure scope reprocessing, assist with procedures, and uphold infection prevention standards while maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 60 days of hire.
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist program and certification.
• Previous endoscopy, surgical services, or sterile processing experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Endoscopy suite with equipment and supplies.
• Verify reprocessing and readiness of endoscopes.
• Inspect equipment and report malfunctions.
• Assist with patient preparation, transport and positioning.
• Support physicians during procedures by passing scopes and tools.
• Monitor supplies and track usage during procedures.
• Process and prepare specimens for lab transport.
• Perform sterilization and storage of endoscopes per guidelines.
• Document scopes, supplies and sterility checks.
• Monitor disinfection solutions per manufacturer instructions.
• Maintain records for equipment processing and quality assurance.

Join the Endoscopy GI team at North Alabama Medical Center, a 263-bed acute care facility serving Florence, Alabama, and the surrounding Shoals community. How you'll contribute

AnEndoscopy Technicianwho excels in this role:

• Prepare the Endoscopy suite with required solutions, scopes, equipment, and supplies prior to procedures.
• Verify that endoscopes have been appropriately reprocessed and are ready for patient use.
• Inspect equipment to ensure proper function and promptly report malfunctions or safety concerns.
• Assist with patient preparation, transport, positioning, and transfer activities.
• Support physicians and clinical staff during endoscopic procedures by passing scopes, instruments, and supplies.
• Monitor and account for supplies utilized during procedures.
• Receive, label, process, and prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory.
• Perform inspection, decontamination, assembly, high-level disinfection, and storage of endoscopes and patient care equipment according to established guidelines and policies.
• Process and document scopes and supplies using chemical, biological, and mechanical indicators to verify sterility and effectiveness of reprocessing methods.
• Monitor and perform testing of antimicrobial and disinfection solutions in accordance with manufacturer instructions and departmental requirements.
• Operate departmental equipment safely and according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to equipment processing, testing, and quality assurance activities.
• Adhere to all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards, including ASGE, AAMI, AORN, TJC, OSHA, and facility policies.
• Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities and departmental initiatives.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting.
• Ability to move patients and equipment safely.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment and handle instruments.
• Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment according to departmental guidelines.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a High School Diploma (or equivalent). Additional requirements include:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within 60 days of hire
• Handle with Care preferred
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program
• Surgical Technologist certification
• Previous endoscopy, surgical services, or sterile processing experience
