Job Summary :

The Endoscopy Technician, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists physicians or other providers with procedures in gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopy settings. This role functions as a technical expert, supporting the performance of advanced procedures.

This position is the resource for the use and maintenance of complex endoscopic equipment and instrumentation in gastroenterology and pulmonary specialties.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice and Quality of Care

• Performs and provides expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures.
• Assists endoscopists, understanding patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting procedures.
• Recognizes emergent situations during endoscopy and prioritizes accordingly.
• Handles specialty equipment and accessories properly.
• Assists with specimen collection and preparation for cytology, microbiology, and pathology.
• Ensures quality checks for successful image transfer.
• Understands the use of contrast media during ERCP and adjusts care for allergies.
• Prepares patient positioning and recognizes fluoroscopy weight limits.
• Uses cautery modalities safely, including monopolar, bipolar, and argon plasma coagulation.
• Performs procedures in OR, ICU, ED, or Radiology settings.
• Assists with therapeutic interventions like balloon dilation, polypectomy, sphincterotomy, stent placement, endostich, and gastrostomy tube placement.
• Stays current with new procedures and equipment.
• Engages in continuing education to maintain competency.
• Provides emotional and physical support to patients, respecting cultural differences.
• Handles stressful situations professionally, including patient and family distress.
• Supports team activities such as cleaning, setup, patient transport, and instrument sterilization.
• Acts independently on projects and reviews supply inventory.
• Collaborates with physicians and staff on supply needs and new equipment considerations.
• Troubleshoots equipment issues and reports defects.
• Monitors contrast inventory, conducts inspections, and updates records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: 1 year in the role preferred.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses / Certifications: Completion of SGNA certification within 6 months of hire required.
