Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA seeks an Endoscopy Surgical Technologist to assist the surgical team by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the circulating nurse. You will verify sites, assist patient transport, and gather equipment based on surgeon preference cards.

Responsibilities include scrubbing in, maintaining the sterile field, instrument handling, sponge/sharp/instrument counts, and assisting with prepping and draping patients.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of a surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• No prior experience required.
• Previous endo/GI experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre-operative site.
• Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards.
• Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field.
• Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures.
• Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy.
• Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members.
• Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.

Surgical technology graduate

LPN license (if LPN graduate)
