Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA seeks a Surgical Tech for Endoscopy to prepare operating rooms and support procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse. You will verify the correct surgical site, assist with patient transport, and prepare the pre-operative site.

Reviewing OR schedules, gathering equipment, and maintaining the sterile field are key. You will instrument cases, pass instruments, and perform counts to ensure safety and efficiency throughout

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program; graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
  • CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
  • LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Previous endo/GI experience preferred.

  • Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre‑operative site
  • Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards
  • Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field
  • Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures
  • Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy
  • Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members
  • Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.

What You Will Do

Schedule
  • Monday – Friday
  • 8 hour shifts
  • Start and end times depend on department’s scheduled procedures
    • Start times between 6 am and 8 am
    • End times between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm
    • Later starts on Thursdays
  • Minimal on "call" rotation dependent on department need, 30-minute response time.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology;completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program;graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experienceto demonstrate competency.
