Overview

Memorial Hermann Surgical Tech, Endoscopy — Full time; 6:30am-3:00pm, Monday–Friday. Call required. Endoscopy experience a plus. BLS (American Heart Association) required. Location: Memorial Hermann Cypress. This position provides proficient perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation and functions as a scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. The role does not require scrubbing in for this position and works under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide proficient perioperative patient care using equipment and instrumentation; support readiness and flow of cases to facilitate unit functioning.
• Serve as scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures; work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and according to the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the patient and growth/development across life cycles.
• Verify functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to procedures as indicated by the surgeon’s preference card; apply aseptic principles to optimize patient care in the OR.
• Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promote professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department goals; serve as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
• Model Memorial Hermann service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Licensure/Certification: Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Experience / Knowledge / Skills: New Grad < 1 year; Surg Tech I = 1 year; Surg Tech II = 2-4 years; Surg Tech III = 5+ years.
