Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, TX seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for Elective Services to support perioperative care across ENT/OMF, General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, and more.

The role requires CST and BLS, with 5+ years preferred; 10:30am–11pm shifts, call, and is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. You will assist the surgeon, maintain sterile technique, and ensure patient safety throughout operative procedures.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Current NBSTSA or NCCT certification as Surgical Technologist.
• Experience: New Grad <1 year; Surg Tech I 1 year; Surg Tech II 2-4 years; Surg Tech III 5+ years.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates perioperative patient care concepts and operates as first scrub in assigned areas.
• Supports case readiness and case flow to ensure unit efficiency.
• Verifies supplies, instruments, and equipment per surgeon’s preference card; maintains asepsis.
• Adheres to policies/procedures within budget and quality standards.
• Promotes professional growth, serves as preceptor and mentor to staff.

Job Summary

Certified Surgical Tech, Elective Services

• Full time; 10:30am-11pm (312hr shifts, days varied)
• Call required
• CST and BLS (American Heart Assoc) required
• 5-7+ years of surgical tech experience preferred
• Experience in General, GYN, and Urology preferred
• Experience in ENT/OMF and Ophthalmology a plus
• Elective Services consist of ENT, OMF, Eyes, General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Bariatrics and Robotics

This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. Position is responsible for providing competent perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation. Position functions as scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory. Position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program
• Certified in Basic Life Support
• Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Experience: New Grad <1 year
• Surg Tech I = 1 year
• Surg Tech II = 2-4 years
• Surg Tech III = 5+ years

Principal Accountabilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts; demonstrates the ability to perform independently as first scrub in assigned specialty areas.
• Provides support for readiness and flow of cases to facilitate overall functioning of the unit, performing assigned duties as needed.
• Verifies functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to the surgical procedure as indicated by the surgeon’s preference card and other available resources; demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in the OR.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
