Job summary

LCMC Health is seeking an EMT Basic to deliver high-quality basic life support in diverse, uncontrolled environments before hospital arrival. You will assess patients of all ages, aid in emergency care, and support ED staff as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent (or 2 years of work experience) and current certifications including BLS/CPR, EMT-Basic, and a valid Louisiana driver’s license. Must be able to perform under protocols and directions.

Qualifications

  • EMT Basic provides assessment and treatment in a prehospital setting.
  • May work with hospital ED staff in emergency care of patients of all ages.
  • Licensed/certified to provide basic life support under physician direction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide highest quality basic life support in prehospital settings.
  • Take patient histories and perform physical exams.
  • Control bleeding and provide airway management to restore circulation.

The EMT Basic is responsible for providing highest quality basic life support in a prehospital setting and augments the various hospital emergency department staffs in the emergency care of the sick and injured. The EMT Basic provides assessment and treatment to patients of all ages in an innumerable variety of environmentally uncontrolled settings in which injury and permanent disability to the EMT are possible. The EMT Basic takes histories, performs physical exams, controls bleeding, provides airway control, restores and maintains circulation. They provide care consistent with the general standard of care under the authority of the department's leading physician and according to the treatment protocols as issued approved by the hospital.

Education/Experience Qualifications
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Defensive Driving Certification - Defensive Driving Certification Issuer
  • Driver's License - Class D - Louisiana Office Of Motor Vehicles
  • Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-Basic) - Louisiana Department Of Health
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic ("Med Tech") ("EMT") (NREMT - Basic) - National Registry Of Emergency Medical Technicians
