Essential Functions

The Emergency Medical Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising emergency medical staff including EMTs, paramedics, and drivers. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining a safe work environment.

EMT Duties

• Responds to calls utilizing the proper response code and documents mileage, grid, incident number, and location on the daily trip sheet.
• Obeys all traffic laws while responding and maintains a safe speed, with limited use of siren when approaching bystanders.
• Carries all needed equipment to the patient, including the trauma box, blood pressure cuff, EKG monitor, and other supplies needed to perform treatment at the EMT Paramedic level.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to perform and use all equipment on the unit.
• Performs primary and secondary surveys on every patient to ensure all illnesses or injuries are identified and treated immediately.

Plans For Daily Crew Assignments

• Plans daily assignments in advance and oversees crew operations to arrange employee time off.

Verifies The Correct Implementation Of Pre-hospital Care By Employees

• Reviews daily run reports to ensure standards of care are followed.
• Recommends in-service training on documentation or patient care errors to the EMS educator for employee development.

Performance Improvement

• Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies (e.g., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA).
• Participates in performance improvement programs, protocols, and projects to enhance departmental operations.

Operational Duties

• Monitors ambulance refueling and ensures units are washed after each shift.
• Assists management with implementing new ideas and processes to facilitate smooth transitions and change management.

Job Qualifications

• GED/High school diploma required.
• NREMT-P State of LA EMT-P certification required.
• CPR, Defensive Driving, and Hazmat Awareness certifications required.
• ACLS within one year of hire, PALS within 6 months, CPI within 90 days, and PHTLS preferred.
• Jefferson Parish permit required; chauffeur's license or equivalent if out-of-state license held. Two years of related EMT-P experience required.
