Job summary

Lamar Institute of Technology is seeking a part-time EMT Instructor to provide hands-on instruction for the Emergency Medical Services program at the Polk County Center in Livingston, Texas. Responsibilities include teaching classes, guiding students, and demonstrating equipment operation. Candidates must have at least two years of EMS instructional experience, relevant certifications, and a high school diploma or GED. Additional qualifications such as an Associate Degree in EMS and experience in higher education are preferred.

Job Summary

The EMT Instructor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program and workforce training at the TSUS Polk County Center in Livingston, TX. This position must be competent to teach using a variety of effective methodologies, provide engagement, and support activities that encourage student learning. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Workforce. This is a part‑time, non‑exempt position. Hours vary depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. This is not a posting for online instructors. Classes will be delivered at the Livingston, TX Polk County Education Center.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses at the Livingston, Texas Polk County Center as scheduled and actively engage with students in the learning process.
  • Provide counsel/guidance to students when there is a need.
  • Demonstrate exemplary technique in the operation of equipment relevant to training.
  • Convey industry‑accepted standards regarding operational techniques of equipment relevant to one’s field.
  • Work with students from different backgrounds and cultures, as well as different knowledge and skill levels.
  • Work flexible hours, including possible weekend and night‑time training.
  • Maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty, and administration at Lamar Institute of Technology.
  • Come to work in a timely and predictable manner.
  • Tolerate stressful conditions as they arise.
  • Follow institute policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the Institute.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of EMS instruction.
  • Certifications required:
    • Texas Department of State Health Services Certified EMT.
    • Texas Department of State Health Services EMS Instructor.
    • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor.
    • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in EMS.
  • Texas Department of State Health Services Certified Advanced EMT or Licensed Paramedic.
  • Three (3) years of field experience as a lead paramedic on a MICU ambulance.
  • Experience working in higher education.
Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment; frequently move items and equipment typically found in an EMS environment, up to 50 lbs.
