Job Description

Position: EMS Instructor (temporary part‑time under Texas State Technical College Corporate College)

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate TSTC core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service, and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students, and community members.
  • Develop curriculum for a variety of educational projects including continuing education, apprenticeships, contract and industrial training, special training projects, and international programs.
  • Deliver instruction for these projects.
  • Complete documentation, including grades and other records, as required by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Medium work – able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, or constantly, and move objects. Must lift and carry up to 50lb. and perform duties at various medical stations.

Training Responsibilities
  • Train and direct students on emergency procedures such as suctioning, oxygen therapy, airway management, traction, splinting, bandaging.
  • Demonstrate CPR instruction for infants and adults, spinal immobilization, vital signs, patient assessment.
  • Direct students in medication and device administration, including epinephrine pens, sublingual/intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, endotracheal, cardioversion, code management, and defibrillation.
  • Teach ECG recognition, intubation, intraosseous infusion, intravenous catheter insertion, external cardiac pacing, pneumatic anti‑shock trousers, and AED use.
  • Provide instruction on hazardous materials, communications, ambulance operations, and multi‑casualty incidents.
  • Maintain and update course content and teaching methodology.
  • Evaluate students through skills practice using EMS equipment and simulation manikins.
  • Prepare EMS lab sessions with appropriate materials and equipment.
Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a Paramedic on an emergency response ambulance.
  • Paramedic certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Knowledge of EMS practices, laboratory safety, emergency procedures, pre‑hospital practices, and proper assessment techniques.
  • Skill to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment safely and correctly.
  • Teaching and testing skills; ability to deliver instructional presentations; ability to prepare EMS lab.
  • Ability to train and direct students.
  • Knowledge of basic and advanced life support skills.
  • Communication, teaching, critical thinking, problem solving, adaptability, empathy, patience, resilience, continuous learning, ethical and professional conduct.
Preferred Certifications
  • AAS degree.
  • EMS Instructor Certification.
  • Instructor certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS.
  • NREMT Paramedic.
  • Clinical Coordinator experience.
