Job summary

Lone Star College is seeking a Part-Time EMS Skills Instructor for the Montgomery campus. This role provides hands-on EMS lab instruction and supports learning objectives, with schedules up to 19 hours per week, including days, evenings, and occasional weekends.

Primarily in a controlled lab setting, you’ll mentor students and assist in delivering course material. Responsibilities include documenting student progress, liaising with clinical staff, and potentially teaching in classroom/lab

Qualifications

  • Two years of EMS experience as a paramedic.
  • Current Texas State paramedic certification/license.
  • Current CPR certification must include adult, child, and infant CPR and obstructed airway; certification due within 90 days of starting.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and teach EMSP students in the clinical environment.
  • Serve as liaison between clinical site staff and students.
  • Notify the EMSP Director of incidents in the clinical environment.
  • Provide regular reports on student progress.
  • Act as ambassador of the EMSP program with clinical sites and students.
  • Compile time sheets, evaluations, and other program paperwork.
  • May perform duties of classroom and laboratory skills instructor.
  • Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Job description

Overview

Part-Time EMS Skills Instructor position at Lone Star College–Montgomery. This role supports Faculty/Instructors by providing students with hands-on experience in a controlled laboratory environment and assists in delivering learning activities that lead to course objectives. Primary responsibility is to help teach course material within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. This position is hired on an as-needed basis and may not exceed 19 hours per week; schedule may include days or evenings with occasional weekends as assigned, depending on department needs.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Mentor and teach EMSP students in the clinical environment
  2. Act as a liaison between the clinical site staff and the student
  3. Notify the EMSP Director of incidents in the clinical environment
  4. Provide regular reports on student progress
  5. Act as an ambassador of the EMSP program with the clinical site and students
  6. Compile paperwork as necessary for the EMSP program, including time sheets, evaluations of clinical sites, program evaluations, and student evaluations
  7. May perform duties of classroom and laboratory skills instructor
  8. Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of EMS sciences and day-to-day operations
  • Ability to perform and demonstrate all skills required to pass the EMS National Registry examination
  • Ability to mentor students in the lab setting
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
Physical Abilities
  • Frequent lifting of equipment; may include above the head; ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
  • Frequent standing for long periods
  • Ability to carry out duties as an EMS professional, including:
    • time-tracking and recording seconds, minutes, and hours
    • reading, writing, and conversing in fluent English
    • listening and responding clearly via radio
    • listening through a stethoscope for breath sounds and blood pressure readings
    • walking and working in small spaces, and in various weather conditions and environments
    • tactile and visual ability sufficient for physical assessment
    • manipulating and handling equipment such as a stretcher from floor to a height of 80 inches
Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment, as well as EMS equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety hazards
  • Work schedule varies and includes evenings and weekends
Required Qualifications
  • Two years of EMS experience as a paramedic

  • Current CPR certification must include adult, child, and infant CPR and obstructed airway for each age group; certification required within 90 days of starting
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $29.68
