Job summary

Northwest Ambulance is seeking an experienced EMT Educator to own the EMT education pathway, from orientation to field practice and ongoing competency.

You will coordinate with RN Educator, operations leadership, Field Training Officers, Medical Direction, and QA/QM to ensure consistent standards and build repeatable training systems. This safety-sensitive role fosters growth of EMS professionals while maintaining high patient-care quality.

Qualifications

• Current Washington State EMT certification in good standing
• 2+ years of recent EMS field experience preferred (strong EMTs with demonstrated teaching ability will be considered)
• Demonstrated competence in BLS patient care, ambulance operations, documentation, and safety
• Ability to teach adults, give direct and respectful feedback, and evaluate competency objectively
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
• Calm, professional presence in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform the full range of motion required in field and training settings
• Instructor credentials such as BLS Instructor, WA State EMS Evaluator, or EVIP/EVOC Instructor (or willingness to obtain them)
• Experience with ESO or similar ePCR documentation systems
• Familiarity with Northwest Ambulance operations and policies

Responsibilities

• Lead EMT onboarding: conduct classroom and field orientation, covering skills, equipment, documentation, and safety.
• Strengthen our Field Training program: select and develop EMT FTOs and preceptors, and maintain standardized evaluation tools.
• Teach and validate clinical skills: run hands-on skills stations and realistic scenarios.
• Turn data into training: spot recurring trends and build focused education around them.
• Coach and remediate: provide coaching and remediation plans when performance gaps are identified.
• Roll out change: translate new policies, protocols, and equipment into practical training and job aids.
• Keep education on track: maintain an annual education calendar and track completions and trends.
