Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts seeks a certified EMT to respond to emergency calls, provide advanced pre-hospital care, and support patient transport. You will obtain histories, monitor vital signs, assist with on-scene treatment, and coordinate with on-call physicians while upholding the department's standards and safety requirements.

This non-exempt, full-time role includes 12-hour shifts, weekends, and a unionized environment with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts EMT certification required.
• CPR certification (Red Cross or American Heart Association).
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience in accident scene management and control.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Preferred: at least one year of urban EMS experience.

Responsibilities

• Administers skilled medical care to individuals in response to calls for emergency treatment in accordance with protocols.
• Obtains medical history and checks vital signs; informs on-call physician of diagnostic indication.
• Performs definitive life support.
• Responds to a wide range of emergency situations as required.
• Provides control at the scene of medical emergencies; conducts triage and transportation at mass casualty incidents.
• Documents pre-hospital care to facilitate admission and data purposes.
• Prepares patients for transport; consults with radio dispatcher to ensure immediate treatment on arrival.
• Inspects, stocks and maintains EMS vehicle and equipment; ensures readiness and proper decontamination.
• Reports suspected abuse following standard procedure.
