Job summary

VCU Health is seeking an Assistant Director – EMS Programs to serve as the Paramedic Program Director for the VCU Health Paramedic Program and all EMS initial education courses under the Center for Trauma and Critical Care Education (CTCCE).

You will ensure accreditation compliance, maintain academic excellence, and foster a supportive learning environment for students. The role reports to the CTCCE Director and requires strong leadership across curriculum, faculty, and field operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
• Current Virginia Department of Health Paramedic certification or the ability to meet within 6 months.
• Current NREMT Paramedic certification.
• Current Virginia Department of Health Education Coordinator certification or ability to meet within 6 months.
• Minimum of 10 years as a Paramedic.
• Minimum of 5 years EMS education experience including teaching and curriculum development.
• Experience in program administration and leadership.
• Knowledge of national EMS education standards (CoAEMSP) and accreditation processes.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee program operations including curriculum development, course scheduling, student recruitment and retention, and faculty management.
• Coordinate with Center Director, Medical Director, and VCU Health administrator on operations and accreditation compliance.
• Ensure compliance with EMS education requirements, student records, privacy, and clinical training.
• Develop and manage the program budget and resource allocation.
• Prepare reports to accrediting bodies and state agencies.
• Monitor metrics like retention, graduation, credentialing, and accreditation outcomes.
• Develop and maintain clinical and field affiliation agreements.
• Offer satellite program oversight and appoint Lead Instructor.
• Represent the program at professional organizations and events.
• Lead didactic, lab, and clinical instruction as needed.
• Assist with courses offered by CTCCE
