Job summary

VCU Health's Center for Trauma and Critical Care Education invites applications for an Assistant Director – EMS Programs to lead the Paramedic, AEMT, and EMT curriculum and ensure adherence to national standards.

You will collaborate with the Center Director, Medical Director, and health-system partners to manage operations, budget, accreditation, and satellite sites, while mentoring faculty and guiding students toward certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• Virginia Paramec certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• National Registry (NREMT) Paramec certification.
• Virginia Health Education Coordinator certification or ability within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Paramec.
• Minimum of 5 years EMS education experience including teaching and curriculum development.
• Demonstrated program administration and leadership experience.
• Knowledge of national EMS education standards and accreditation processes.
• Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems.
• Commitment to respectful, professional environments for diverse staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all program operations: curriculum, scheduling, recruitment, retention, and faculty management.
• Coordinate with Center Director, Medical Director, and VCU Health administrator on status and development while meeting accreditation standards.
• Ensure compliance with EMS education regulations (CoAEMSP), student records, privacy, and clinical training.
• Develop and manage the program budget for efficient resource use.
• Prepare and submit reports to accrediting bodies, state agencies and administration.
• Monitor metrics: retention, graduation, credentialing, employer satisfaction, accreditation outcomes.
• Develop and maintain clinical affiliations with healthcare agencies.
• Develop and maintain field affiliations with EMS agencies.
• Develop satellite program sites per accreditation standards and oversee Lead Instructor appointment.
• Represent the program at professional organizations, conferences, and community events.
