Job summary

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, VA seeks an EMS Faculty member to teach EMS and Fire Science courses in classroom, online, and laboratory settings.

The role includes supervising clinical rotations and maintaining a 15-credit load per semester, with summer opportunities based on program needs. The successful candidate will plan, deliver, and evaluate instruction, support student learning, and devote at least 10 engagement hours weekly including advising.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Emergency Medical Services, Health Education, Public Safety, Allied Health, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic certification and/or Virginia Paramedic certification.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Paramedic.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EMS education and the ability to teach EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic courses.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current EMS practices, educational methodologies, accreditation requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, clinical partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that supports student achievement and success.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EMS and/or Fire Science-related courses in classroom, online, and laboratory settings and supervise limited clinical rotations.
  • Faculty loads are normally 15 credits per semester; may teach during summer if needed.
  • Collaborate in planning, delivery, and evaluation of instruction; provide related services to promote student learning.
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 student engagement hours per week, including advising and collateral duties.
  • Support program operations and ongoing professional development; participate in departmental initiatives.
