County Emergency Communications seeks Emergency Medical Dispatchers to manage urgent medical calls from a centralized console in New Suffolk, NY. You will verify locations, collect critical details, and apply protocols to determine response priority and coordinate ambulance resources.

Role may require CPR/EMD certification and ongoing training. The position may involve overnight shifts, weekends, and overtime, with opportunities for professional development and shift benefits.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or recognized equivalent is commonly required. Employers may recruit applicants for sponsored training or require current Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification before appointment.
• CPR certification may be required.
• EMD certification is preferred or required depending on vacancy and agency.

Responsabilités

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm the patient’s location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about the patient’s condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
