Job summary

County Emergency Communications in Selden, NY is seeking Emergency Medical Dispatcher applicants to support urgent medical response from a console-based operations center. You will receive calls involving illness or injury, confirm location and callback details, gather patient information, determine response priority, and dispatch ambulance resources per approved protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is commonly required.
• CPR certification may be required.
• Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification is preferred but not universal.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm the patient’s location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about the patient’s condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
