Job summary

Valley Health is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate emergency and non-emergency ambulance, wheelchair, ambulatory, and taxi transportation across Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. You will receive requests by phone, fax, and online, and input data into the CAD system while assessing insurance eligibility and medical necessity.

The role emphasizes strong customer service, clerical accuracy, and fast data entry in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to apply critical thinking toward problem solving and conflict resolution.
• Excellent customer service, clerical, computer, and data entry skills required.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Edge, Excel and Outlook required.
• Ability to accurately type 30-35 wpm minimum.
• EMS state certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and dispatch requests for emergency and non-emergency transportation via CAD.
• Enter all pertinent information into CAD.
• Register patient, check insurance eligibility, determine level of service needed, and confirm medical necessity.
• Initiate insurance authorization, collect payments electronically and prepare run reports for billing.
• Assign trips to active units and monitor progress; communicate via two-way radio, pagers and telephone.
• Deploy ambulances and wheelchair vans throughout VA, WV and MD.
