Job summary

WellLife Network is seeking an Assistant Habilitation Specialist to help operate the classroom and support individuals with developmental disabilities in a Day Hab setting in South Richmond Hill, NY. The role emphasizes dignity, independence, and ongoing growth through hands-on daily activities.

You will implement goals, provide ADL training, monitor progress, and participate in safety and documentation tasks while maintaining confidentiality and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required; experience with developmental disabilities preferred.
• A valid New York State Driver’s License with 1 year of driving experience is required.
• Must be comfortable operating a large vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the operation of the classroom and implement goals to maximize each participant’s independence, dignity, and growth.
• Provide training in activities of daily living as needed.
• Monitor participants’ progress by collecting and documenting performance data.
• Serve as a positive role model in program and community settings.
• Provide behavioral interventions using least restrictive OPWDD approved techniques.
• Must complete AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid techniques.
• Follow the established activity schedule and assist in paperwork when necessary.
• Enter data on participants into the electronic data system.
• Ensure the unit is clean, safe, and appropriately decorated at all times.
• Supervise lunch periods and assist with feeding as needed.
• Participate in medical, psychiatric, and other appointments as required.
• Be able to physically interact with participants and assist in SCIP interventions, emergency CPR, AMAP, and first aid; participate in fire drills.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
