Job summary

LIFT Community Action Agency, Inc. invites applications for a Special Needs Aide in the Head Start program. The role supports the Teacher, Caregiver and Teacher Assistant to provide a warm, inclusive learning space for children with special needs and their families, following IFSP/IEP plans and developmental guidance.

The position requires activities that involve standing, mobility and daily interaction with children, with emphasis on safety, communication and teamwork in a center setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to obtain criminal background clearance prior to hire.
• First aid and infant/toddler CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
• Understanding of needs of low‑income families and parental involvement.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement appropriate special needs activities in line with standards.
• Collaborate with parents and volunteers to support learning.
• Attend IFSP/IEP meetings and assist with therapy sessions as required.
• Maintain classroom safety, cleanliness and organization.
• Assist with diaper changing, toilet training and daily routines.
• Support caregivers and teachers to create an engaging, inclusive classroom.
