Job summary

LIFT Community Action Agency, Inc. seeks a Special Needs Aide/Substitute to support the care, safety and learning of a special needs child. The role assists the Caregiver, Teacher and Teacher Assistant to create a warm, developmentally appropriate learning environment and participate in early intervention activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Obtain and maintain first aid and infant/toddler CPR certification within 90 days from hire.
• Criminal background check clearance prior to hire and during employment.
• Understanding of needs of low-income families and the role of parents as primary educators.
• Documentation of initial and annual health examination and TB screening.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement special needs activities in line with performance standards.
• Work with parent volunteers in the center.
• Collaborate with staff to determine children's needs and model parent engagement at home.
• Attend IFSP/IEP meetings and therapy sessions as required.
• Maintain safe classroom practices and supervise students during activities.
• Support Teacher in organizing the classroom and material storage.
• Assist with diapering, toileting and daily routines as appropriate.
• Help supervise field trips and maintain child-to-staff ratios.
• Communicate with parents and provide development information as instructed.
