Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant to join local schools. The role provides support to instructional programs with supervision, care and instruction for students with special needs, and helps implement plans for instruction and behavior management.

The position reports to local school principals and the Special Education Director and requires collaboration with staff to ensure compliance with IEP goals and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Must hold an Associate’s degree (or)
• Have completed a minimum of 48 semester hours of study at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or)
• Have successfully completed the Alabama State Board of Education approved WorkKeys test
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board deems appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of a supervising teacher to support objectives and IEPS.
• Provides instruction to students in various activities to reinforce instructional objectives and implement individual plans.
• Supports teachers in the administration of tests and completion of school work.
• Assists students with special needs in grooming, daily living, and transfer tasks as assigned.
• Collaborates with supervising staff to communicate information and comply with guidelines.
• Confers with teachers on progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Implements behavioral intervention plans under supervision to reinforce skills.
• Monitors students across settings for safety and positive learning environment.
• Performs data collection, record keeping and clerical tasks to support instruction.
• Responds to emergencies and maintains confidentiality.
• Performs duties that promote good public relations and follows Board policies.
• Assume other reasonable related duties as assigned by supervisor.
