Job summary

Crete Public Schools Crete Elementary School in Crete, Nebraska seeks a Classified - Special Education Paraeducator to start immediately. Reports to the Building Principal; 185 days; 7-8 hours per day.

Hourly pay starts at $17.26 and varies with experience; benefits include health insurance, long-term disability, and leave. Position supports students with special needs, collaborates with teachers, and requires teamwork, strong communication, and ability to manage classroom activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and either an associate’s degree, two years of college, or a passing score on a para assessment.
• Satisfactory completion of criminal background check.
• Work well with children and co-workers.
• First aid knowledge preferred, but not required.
• Bilingual preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to students with special needs, non-English-speaking students, or other students as assigned.
• Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and on field trips.
• Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
• Discuss duties with teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Present subject matter to students under guidance, using lectures or supervised activities.
• Organize and label materials and display students’ work appropriately.
• Distribute tests and homework and collect them when completed.
• Use computers and AV aids to supplement presentations.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Prepare lesson materials and demonstrations.
• Carry out therapeutic regimens under supervision of teachers and other professionals.
• Assist in bus loading/unloading and help students access facilities.
