Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to students with special needs and non-English-speaking students.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums or on field trips.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Observe students’ performance and record progress; discuss duties with teachers.
  • Present subject matter to students under supervision using lectures or role-playing.
  • Organize and label materials and display students’ work for eye level/perception.
  • Distribute tests and homework and collect them when completed.
  • Use computers, audio-visual aids and other equipment to supplement presentations.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards and demonstrations.
  • Carry out therapeutic regimens under supervision of teachers/therapists.
  • Provide disabled students with assistive devices and access to facilities.
  • Assist in bus loading and unloading.
  • Maintain classroom computers and assist with hardware/software use.
  • Serve as a role model and positive community member.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies.

Job Tasks
  • Provide assistance to students with special needs, non-English-speaking students, students with physical and mental disabilities, or other students as assigned.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Organize and label materials and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye level and perceptual skills.
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.
  • Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education teachers, psychologists, speech-language pathologists or other professionals.
  • Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
  • Assist in bus loading and unloading.
  • Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.
  • Serve as a role model to all students.
  • Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
  • Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.

At-Will Position

This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.

Essential Functions

(1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job;

(2) the ability to perform the identified tasks andperformance responsibilities which require effective teaching and communication skills; and
