Job summary

Crete Public Schools Crete Middle School in Crete, Nebraska is seeking a Classified - Special Education Paraeducator to begin immediately. The role runs on an 185-day calendar, 7-8 hours per day, with hourly pay starting at $17.26 based on related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and either an associate’s degree, two years of college, or a passing score on a state or local assessment that demonstrates their ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and math
• Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
• Work well with children and co-workers
• First aid knowledge preferred, but not required
• Bilingual preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to students with special needs and non-English-speaking students.
• Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums or on field trips.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Observe students’ performance and record progress; discuss duties with teachers.
• Present subject matter to students under supervision using lectures or role-playing.
• Organize and label materials and display students’ work for eye level/perception.
• Distribute tests and homework and collect them when completed.
• Use computers, audio-visual aids and other equipment to supplement presentations.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards and demonstrations.
• Carry out therapeutic regimens under supervision of teachers/therapists.
• Provide disabled students with assistive devices and access to facilities.
• Assist in bus loading and unloading.
• Maintain classroom computers and assist with hardware/software use.
• Serve as a role model and positive community member.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies.
