Job summary

Qualifications

  • Licensure required by the Massachusetts DESE for PreK-8 with Severe/Moderate Disabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree with appropriate license; or Master's with license within 5 years.
  • Highly qualified in the content area as defined by district and state.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
  • Guides learning toward district curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Employs instructional techniques and media suited to location and student needs.
  • Implements district philosophy, goals, and performance expectations through instruction.
  • Assesses student progress regularly; provides progress reports and communicates with parents.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks assistance from district specialists.
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Follows SPS code of conduct and develops classroom rules enforced fairly.
  • Plans and supervises paraprofessionals and writes evaluations as required.
  • Maintains ongoing professional growth to satisfy district and personal goals.
  • Participates in the recognized teacher evaluation process and related activities.
  • Attends meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making.
  • Participates in school activities and budget/curriculum decisions as applicable.
